Risk assessment of Cedrus deodara street trees in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, Korea

We performed risk assessment of the Himalayan cedar street trees in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, Korea. A total of 100 trees were examined in terms of tree attributes, stem defects, and internal defects in August 2022. The street trees were categorized into 'very good' (59%) and 'good' (39%) groups based on the visual inspection. While the defects were observed on 76 trees through visual inspection, SoT showed sound wood in all trees. Based on the combination of SoT and ERT, early internal decay was detected at various stem heights. Several trees in Daegu had tree support systems installed at root collars. Such support systems caused physiological abnormalities in the area under pressure. These results could provide insights on the efficient management of Himalayan cedar street trees. |
