発表題目 | Roles of microbial turnover in soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics in a Japanese beech forest Roles of microbial turnover in soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics in a Japanese beech forest |
要旨本文 | Microbial biomass is potential source of soil organic matter and sink/source of plant nutrients, but its quantitative importance still remains questionable in forests. Microbial biomass C and N (MBC and MBN) at each depth (n = 3; L, F, H, 0-30 cm) were measured using chloroform fumigation technique once per month for three growing periods in 90 yr old beech forest of Mt. Naeba. MBC and MBN in the soil profile calculated using bulk density and depth varied seasonally between 1602 and 3911 kg C ha-1 and between 169 and 413 kg N ha-1, respectively. Microbial C and N turnover estimated by dividing sum of net seasonal decreases in MBC(N) stock by average MBC(N) stock ranged from 0.7 to 2.3 yr-1, depending on depths or years. Net microbial necromass inputs (2783 kg C ha-1 yr-1 and 289 kg N ha-1 yr-1) are capable of supporting soil C storage (130 Mg C ha-1) and supplying N to trees (60 N kg ha-1 yr-1 for annual leaf production and 30 N kg ha-1 for fruit production in masting year). |
