要旨本文 | Most of the studies have assumed that stem respiration is equal to CO2 efflux at the stem surface measured with the chamber method. However, recent studies pointed out that a part of respired CO2 is transported by sap flow, and ignoring such internal CO2 flux can result in an underestimation of stem respiration. But, studies for internal CO2 flux are still limited, and species variations in internal CO2 flux are not explored sufficiently. We thus applied the mass-balanced approach to nine temperature species, to quantify internal flux by monitoring CO2 in the stem directly. The sap flow effect on stem respiration largely varied by species, from 65 % of total respiration in Quercus trees to only 0.5 % in Cryptomeria trees. Wood density did not explain this variation. We report relation with other anatomical characteristics, such as vessel diameter, and fraction of parenchyma tissues. |
