要旨本文 | The carbon sink function of forests has received attention due to global warming. Deciduous forests that were once used as Satoyama have been turned into green spaces near Tokyo. Because these forests are rarely logged and regenerated, many are aged, resulting in a decline their multifaceted ecosystem functions. To restore the Satoyama landscape and the ecosystem functions, we started managing vegetation. However, since vegetation management remove CO2-assimilating plants and nutrient-providing litter, it is highly likely that vegetation management will reduce forest CO2 assimilation. We focused on soil respiration, which has a significant contribution to the forest carbon cycle. We investigated soil respiration and soil heterotrophic respiration in a stand with undergrowth removal, a stand with undergrowth and leaf-litter removal, and small-area clear-cut site. We considered how vegetation management affects the soil carbon cycle in relation to soil nutrient properties. |
